The M109 is a 155 mm TARETET, a self -driven American howling, introduced to replace M44 in the early 1960s. It has been upgraded several times, including M109a7. The M109 family is the most common Western fire support weapon of maneuver brigades of armored and mechanized infantry divisions. The M109 has a 4 -person crew: the chief/commander of the department, the driver, the shooter and the ammunition carrier/loader. The chef or the shooter targets the ball to the left or right (deviation) and up and down (quarter). The British army replaced the M109 with AS-90. Some European Armed Forces replace or replace the old M109s with the German PZH 2000. The upgrades made to M109 were introduced by the US (see the following variants) and Switzerland (Kawest).
