Hobbytime Review
Bismarck was the first of the two Bismarck -class armor built for Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. The ship, named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, was launched at the Blohm & Voss Shipyard in Hamburg in July 1936 and launched in February 1939. The study was completed in August 1940, when he was appointed in the German fleet, Babismarck and his sister ship Tirpitz were the largest warships ever made by Germany and were the two largest warships made by any European forces.
During his eight -month career of the warship, Bismarck carried out a 8 -day attack operation in May 1941, named Rheinubung. The ship would enter the Atlantic Ocean with heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen and raid the allied ships from North America to Great Britain. Two ships were identified several times off the coast of Scandinavia and British Navy Units were assigned to prevent their routes. In the Battle of the Danish Battle, the battle cruiser Hms Hood was initially fighting with Prinz Eugen, Prinz, HMS Wales fought with the Prince of Wales Bismarck. In the subsequent war, Hood, Bismarck and Prinz Eugen was destroyed by the united fire of Eugen and then forced him to retreat. Bismarck sufficient damage to force the Raid of the Wales of Wales to end his task.
The destruction of Hood encouraged a relentless follow -up of the Royal Navy, including dozens of warships. Two days later, Bismarck, who set out for the occupied France to perform repairs, was attacked by 16 Fair Swordfish double -wing torpedo bombardment plane from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal; One took a hit that made the armor's rudder devotion inaccurate. In the last morning of the next morning, Bismarck, who was already crippled, collided with two British armored and two heavy cruisers and suffered insufficient damage and severe loss of life. Allow the ship to be abandoned by the sinking ship to prevent the boarding of the ship and to limit further casualties. Most experts agree that war damage will cause it to sink at the end.
The sunken was found by Robert Ballard in June 1989, and since then a few other exploration trips have been investigated. In 2002, a detailed underwater survey of the wreck showed that the constant close -distance bombardment was largely ineffective in the effort to sink the ship, that the torpedo launched to Bismarck was almost completely ineffective and the coating of the armor deck. to be almost intact.
