Hobbytime Review
Queen Elizabeth -Class Warships were a group of five super dretnotes built for the royal navy in the 1910s. These armor were superior to the Iron Duke class, the pioneers of the Royal Navy in terms of firepower, protection and speed. The corresponding Bayern class ships were generally considered competitive, but the Queen Elizabeth class was 2 knots (3.7 km/h) and the German class was superior to 5: 2. Queen Elizabeths are often considered the first fast warships.
Queen Elizabeth S were the first armor armed with cannons (381 mm), and in the 1919 edition of Jane's Fighting Ships, it was described as "the most successful mother -to -date type designed so far". They served a lot in both world wars. Barham was lost in the submarine attack in 1941, but others survived the wars and was scrapped in the late 1940s.
The ships of the Queen Elizabeth class were 600 feet 6 inches (183.0 m) length between the verticals, 634 ft 6 inches (193.4 m) in the water line and the total length was 643 FT 9 inches (196.2 m). A stern bridge was attached to several ships. At a deep load, 90 fit 6 inches (28 m) had a beam and 33 fit 7 inches (10.2 m) in the draft. Approximately 32,590 long tones (33,113 T) and 33.260 long tones (33.790 T) had normal displacement at a deep load. The ships had a metasantric height of 6.5 fit (2.0 m) at the load. The crew is between 923 and 951 officers and completed; In 1920, the number of crews rose from 1,016 to 1,025. In the same year, the service as a flagship increased these numbers to 1,249 to 1,262.
Two sets were employed directly by steam turbine, Parsons units were placed in Queen Elizabeth, Warspite and Malaya, and Barham and the governor had Brown-Curtis turbines. The second couple was not equipped with cruising turbines to improve the fuel economy at low speeds used on the first three ships. Each turbine set, 235 psi (1,620 kpa; 17 kgf/cm2) working pressure by 24 Babcock & Wilcox boiler using the steam provided by the boilers, two -winged propellers. The boilers were channeled to a pair of funnels. The turbines were divided into three side -side waterproof compartments; While the low -pressure turbines running the inner shaft pair were together in the central machine office, the high -pressure turbines were in the rooms on both sides.
The turbines were rated as 75,000 miles of horsepower (56,000 kW) at excessive load, and the maximum 25 knots (46 km/h) accelerate the ships, [13], but left behind. Due to the war, only Barham carried out Deniz trials on a restrained route; In August 1916, he reached a maximum speed of 23.9 knots (44.3 km/h; 27.5 Mph) from 70,788 SHP (52.787 kW) at a deep load. [14] Fuel storage was at the amount of 3,400 long tons (3,500 T) fuel that allowed ships to steam for 5,000 maritime miles.
