The PzKpfw III (Panzerkampfwagen III) was a German medium tank used in World War II. The first prototypes of the vehicle were produced in 1936, and mass production continued between 1937 and 1943, resulting in the production of approximately 5,800 vehicles. The tank in the E version was powered by a single Maybach HL 120 TRM engine with 300 HP power. It was armed with one 37 mm KwK 35/36 cannon and two 7.92 mm MG 34 machine guns mounted in the turret.PzKpfw III, II. It was one of the Wehrmacht's most intensively developed and modernized tanks, "carrying the workload" of the German armored forces during World War II. Mass production started in 1936 and many variants of this tank were produced in the process. Chronologically, the first version was version A, equipped with a 37 mm gun and a 230 horsepower engine. However, in December 1938, version E was produced, the first version produced in large series. This version had a new, significantly more powerful engine, a completely new suspension and stronger armor on the front part of the turret and the hull. Later (from December 1940) it was also equipped with a more powerful 50 mm gun. In March 1940, production of the G version began, in which the rear hull and turret armor were strengthened. Shortly afterwards, in October 1940, production of the H version began, armed from the outset with the 50 mm KwK 38 L/42 gun and featuring reinforced frontal armour. One of the most produced was the J version, with armor up to 50 mm thick (later reinforced with additional plates) and, after experience gained in conflicts with T-34 and KW-1 vehicles, was heavily re-equipped with the 50 mm caliber KwK 39 L/60 gun. The final development version was the N version, intended as a support tank for armored grenadiers and armed with the 75 mm KwK 37 L/24 short-barreled gun. Numerous other vehicles were produced on the PzKpfw III chassis, such as the StuG III assault gun. PzKpfw III tanks, World War II It was used on almost all fronts of World War II: from the September campaign in 1939, to the French campaign in 1940, operations Barbarossa and Typhoon in 1941, the Battle of Kursk in 1943 and the final operations of the German army against the USSR and the Western Allies in 1944-1945.
