K2 Black Panther is a main battle tank planned to replace the M48 Patton and K1 AMTs in its inventory, developed by the ROTEM within the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group of the Republic of South Korea.
Development was started in 1995. It has a crew for 3 people. War weight is 55 tons. The size is 10.8 x 3.6 x 2.4 meters (length x width x height) maximum speed is 70 km on the flat road and 50 km/h in the field. The range is around 450 km. It has a water transition capacity of 4.1 meters. It is armored with composite armor.
In the first stages of the design, it was planned to have a 140 mm-free ball as the main weapon, but in the following stages, the Hyundai WIA CN08 120-mm/L55 was returned to the automatic FIA. The automatic filling system is similar to the system used in the 120 mm food (new name Nexter) ball in the French Leclerc tank. The tank is in various types of 120 mm ball ammunition in various types. Unlike the previous generation K1 tanks, the CBRN (chemical biological radiological nuclear) has a positive pressure ventilation system for war, thus the crew will have the ability to fight without Crbrn clothing set.
The tank has one coaxial 7.62 mm machine rifle (12,000 bullets) and one has a 12.7 × 99 mm M2-Browning Derive K6 heavy machine rifle (3,200 bullets).
In the first phases of the tank's power package, the 12-cylinder MB-883 KA500 diesel engine / color automatic transmission will be used in the next stage, developed by the South Korean Doosan DST company 1,500 horsepower diesel engine [1] and 5 forward 3 back automatic transmission system developed by S&T Dynamics.
