It is a vehicle developed by AM General in the 4x4 class produced for military use. This vehicle has previously replaced the M151 Mutt, M561 Gama Goat, M718A1 and M792 model lifeguards in the US Army service. Humvee inspired Hummer and SUV vehicles for civilian purposes to be produced later.

M1025 and M1043/M1044 designs can be armed with MK19 bombs, M60 machine gun, M2 Browning machine gun, M240G/B and M249 machine rifles. The newly produced M1114 advanced armored HMMWV model is equipped with these weapons. In some M1114 and M1116 advanced armored M1117 Armored Safety vehicles, the Crows system was installed in the Crows system that allows the gun operator to control the gun from the vehicle.
