Hobbytime Review
The space shuttle is a retired, partially reusable low -world orbit spacecraft system operated by the US National Aeronautics and Space Office (NASA) as part of the Space shuttle program. The official program name was the only element financed for development, the space transport system (STS), which was taken from the 1969 plan for a reusable spacecraft system. The first of the four orbit test flights (STS-1) took place in 1981 and led to operational flights (STS-5). From 1981 to 2011, a total of 135 tasks launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida (KSC) were built and flew. Operational tasks launched a large number of satellites, inter -planets and hubble space telescope (HST), made scientific experiments in orbit, participated in the Shuttle - Mir program with Russia and participated in the construction and service of the International Space Station (ISS). The total time of the space shuttle fleet was 1,323 days.
Space shuttle components contain an orbiter tool (oV) with three clustered Rocketdyne RS-25 main engine, a pair of recovered solid rocket booster (SRBs), and a wasteful external tank containing liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. The space shuttle was thrown vertically like a traditional rocket, and two SRB worked in parallel with the three main engines of the orbit tools fed from meat. While the main engines continued to operate, the SRBs were launched before the vehicle reached orbit, and the meat was launched after the main engine was closed and just before it was orbit. Using Orbiter's two orbital maneuvering system (OMS) engine. At the end of the mission, he fired the OMS to get out of the orbit and re -enter the atmosphere. The Orbiter was protected by the thermal protection system tiles during the entry and filtered to a runway landing as a space aircraft, usually to the KSC, the Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida, or the Edwards Air Force Base, Rogers Dry Lake in California. If it took place at the landing Edwards, the Orbiter flew back to KSC on the top of Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA), a specially modified Boeing 747.
Enterprise was built in 1976 and was used in approaching and landing tests, but it did not have any orbit. Initially, four full operational orbit were built: Columbia, Challenger, Discovery and Atlantis. Two of them were lost in task accidents: Challenger in 1986 and Columbia in 2003, a total of 14 astronauts died. Fifth Operational (and Sixth) Orbit Tool Endeavour was built in 1991 to replace Challenger. The three surviving operational vehicles were withdrawn from the service after Atlantis. The United States relied on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft to move astronauts to ISS, from the latest Shuttle flight to May 2020 to the Crew Dragon Demo-2 mission.
