The Boeing KC-97 Stratotanker is a flying tanker based on the Boeing C-97 aircraft. 811 units were produced between 1950 and 1958. The KC-97 played an important role in U.S. Air Force doctrine in the 1950s because it allowed for significant extensions of combat patrols by B-47 Stratojet aircraft. The KC-97G model is the most widely produced version.
