Lockheed EC-121 Warning Star was the early warning and surveillance aircraft used by the United States during the Cold War. The aircraft's propulsion system was provided by four Wright R-3350 Cyclone engines of 3400 horsepower each. The first flight of this aircraft took place in October 1949. Mass production took place between 1953 and 1958, leading to the production of approximately 230 aircraft. The aircraft did not have a permanent weapon system. The EC-121 Warning Star was the first true mass-produced early warning aircraft in aviation history. The demand for this type of aircraft increased during World War II. It was forwarded by the US Air Force and US Navy shortly after the end of World War II, and due to the pioneering (for the time) nature of the project, the aircraft did not go into mass production until 1953. To shorten the research and development period, it was decided to adapt the Lockheed Super Constellation transport aircraft to new needs. The aircraft has been modernized mainly by adding very comprehensive avionics and radars (search (AN/APS-95) and airborne (AN/APS-103)). During its long period of service, which lasted until 1982, the aircraft was modernized and various electronic solutions were tested on it. The sole user of these aircraft was the United States.
