Hobbytime Review
Boeing F/A-18E or F/A-18F Super Hornet are dual-engine, multi-purpose fighter aircraft variants based on McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet. F/A-18E Single and F/A-18F tandem seat types are larger and more advanced derivatives of F/A-18C and D Hornet.
Super Hornet has an internal 20mm M61 M61 Vulcan Döner Top and can carry weapons from air to air and air to land. Additional fuel can be transported in the external fuel tank up to five. The aircraft also added a fuel supply system from an external air to the air; It can be configured as a fuel tanker in the air.
Super Hornet, which was first designed and produced by McDonnell Douglas, first flew in 1995. Low -ratio production began in early 1997. After the merger of McDonnell Douglas and Boeing, full -rate production started in September 1997. Super Hornet replaced the Grumman F-14 Tomcat, who retired in 2006, and entered the fleet service with the United States Navy in 1999; Super Hornet served with the original Hornet. The Australian Royal Air Force (RAAF), which has been using F/A-18A as a main hunter plane since 1984, ordered that F/A-18F's old General Dynamics F-111c fleet in 2007. Raaf Super Hornets were put into service in December 2010.
The Super Hornet's design has about 20 %larger than the original Hornet, 7,000 lb (3,200 kg) heavier empty weight and 15,000 lb (6,800 kg) heavier weight. Super Hornet carries 33 %more internal fuel, increases the task range by 41 %and 50 %compared to the original Hornet. The empty weight of Super Hornet is about 11,000 libre (5,000 kg) less than that of F-14 Tomcat, where it replaces, and approaches the load and range of F-14. Since Super Hornet is significantly heavier than the original Hornet, the catheting and stop systems are set differently. The Super Horneti is officially called "Rhino" to distinguish between previous hornets to help secure flight operations and prevent confusion in radio calls. ("Rhino" nickname was given to McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II, who had previously retired from the fleet in 1987.)
Unlike the previous Hornet, Super Hornet is designed to be equipped with an air fuel supply system (ARS) or "Dating Tank" for fuel supply to other aircraft, and the KA-6D and Lockheed S-3B Viking tankers retired from the navy is designed to fill the tanker role. ARS can carry a total of 13,000 kg (29,000 lb) fuel with a Hose 1,200 L (330 US gallon) tank on the central line, along with four external 1,800 L (480 US gallon) tank and internal tank. In typical tasks, one -fifth of the aircraft's wing is divided into the role of tanker who consumed the life of aircraft fatigue faster than other tasks.
