Consolidated PBY Catalina is a flying boat and amphibian aircraft produced in the 1930s and 1940s. It was known as CanSo in Canada service. It was one of the most widely used seafood of World War II. Catalinas served in every branch of the United States Armed Forces and in the air force and navy of many other nations. The last military PBYs served until the 1980s. 86 years after the first flight, as of 2021, the aircraft continues to fly as a water bombardment (or air tanker) in air -fire operations in some parts of the world. None of them remained in military service.
The PBY was the most popular aircraft built by about 3,300 aircraft built.
During World War II, the PBYs were used in anti-submarine war, patrol bombing, convoy escort, search and rescue tasks (especially air-sea rescue) and cargo transportation.
The type used in almost all operational theaters of World War II. Catalina served in a privileged way and played an important and invaluable role in the war against Japan.
