Hobbytime Model Information

Designed as the US Navy's main fighter aircraft, the F-14 Tomcat was capable of performing air superiority, escort and strike missions and was undoubtedly one of the most advanced and technologically advanced aircraft to ever serve on an aircraft carrier. The prototype aircraft was flown on December 21, 1970, and the first aircraft were delivered to the US Navy four years later. The last Tomcat aircraft were only taken out of service in 2006; This perfectly demonstrates the high quality and excellent performance of this machine. The most innovative and characteristic solution for the F-14 is variable geometry wings. Controlled by a computer or manually by the pilot, these wings can change angle of attack from 20 degrees at minimum speed to 60 degrees at supersonic speeds. The changing geometry of the wings also allows for optimal positioning of the wings during tight maneuvers; In this way, this powerful aircraft exhibits incredible maneuverability. The heart of the Tomcat weapon system is the Hughes ANG-9 radar, which usually operates in conjunction with AIM-54A Phoenix air-to-air missiles with a range of up to 180 km. The ability to track and hit multiple targets is especially important. As combat experience in the Vietnam War has shown, no less important element of armament is the cannons – mounted inside the M-61 Vulcan fuselage in the F-14, these cannons can fire up to 6,000 rounds per minute! Of course, the Tomcat can also be fitted with other types of weapons, such as Sparrow, Sidewinder rockets, or various bombs. Much of the success of the F-14 is owed to its excellent power unit, consisting of a pair of Pratt-Whitney TF30 engines with afterburning thrust of 9300 daN. Technical data: Maximum speed: 2480 km/h, rate of climb: 153 m/s, practical ceiling height: 17100 m, maximum range: 3200 km, armament: fixed - single, six-barreled 20 mm M61-A1 gun, sling - payload capacity up to 6580 kg.
